“U.S. News” has announced the ranking, its results for the best universities for the year 2026/2027, where Egyptian universities have achieved quality progress in the number of ranked universities, world ranking, and research performance level, including 29 Egyptian universities in the results of this year’s ranking.
These results come in the light of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s follow-up to the international rankings portfolio, which aims to uplift the global ranking of Egyptian universities, support universities at the level of scientific research, build capacity, and increase international cooperation, contributing to bolster the global status of higher education institutions in prestigious international rankings.
The results of this year’s ranking show a clear and sustained expansion in the results of the Egyptian universities, where they made continuous progress during the period of the year (2021/2022 to the results of the year 2027/2026), moving from mere institutional presence to a broader and more competitive presence, the Egyptian presence in the ranking includes universities representing different pioneers of the higher education system, as a result About improving the ranking of a number of Egyptian universities within the ranking by achieving advanced centers compared to the previous years.
The number of Egyptian universities listed in the ranking has seen an increase from 16 universities in the 2021/2022 ranking, to 29 universities in the latest 2026/2027 ranking results.
As 4 Egyptian universities are in the (top 300 universities in the world) ranking, 9 are in the (world’s top 500 universities), and 23 are in the (the world’s top 1000 universities), this increase is gaining strategic importance since the list (top 1000 universities) is often used as a practical benchmark for global institutional appearance, meaning that Egypt’s progress is being achieved A visibly international competition, these results also reflect the progress achieved by Egyptian universities in terms of tangible improvement in the quality of research and educational performance of Egyptian academic institutions, improving high-crediting research, international cooperation, and the research reputation of the institution.
The report indicated that the University of Cairo has maintained its breast locally, coming in at 221st place globally, Mansoura University is also ranked 267 globally, Al-Azhar University is 279 globally, and Ain Shams University is 290 globally, making 4 universities in the top 300 universities.
Alexandria and Al-Zakazik universities are ranked 304, Assiut University 405 globally, Tanta University 428 globally, Kafr El-Sheikh University 460 globally, with this there are 9 top 500 universities.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdel Aziz Gansawa, congratulated Egyptian universities listed in this year’s ranking, expressing his pride in the quality progress made by Egyptian academic institutions on both regional and international arenas, noting that the widespread presence of Egyptian universities in the global rankings reinforces their success in building international partnerships and visibly competitiveness.
The minister clarified that the Ministry puts the profile of “educational diplomacy” and the enhancement of international cooperation at the top of its priorities, which contributes to the processing of Egyptian higher education, and raising the quality of its output to global competitiveness.
On his part, Dr. Adel Abdel-Ghafar, Media Adviser and Ministry’s Spokesperson, affirmed that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research continues to support Egyptian universities in their pursuit of academic and research excellence, pointing out that the progress made by Egyptian universities in international rankings reflects the great efforts made by universities in developing the scientific research system, Increasing collaboration with researchers from different countries of the world, and interest in the quality of joint research that has high rates of scientific citation, thus enhancing the chances of its publication in high-impact scientific leagues.
The spokesman pointed out the strategy adopted by the Ministry to support international publication, provide technical support to educational institutions and research centers, which contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of Egyptian universities and consolidating Egypt’s position as a distinguished regional center in the field of higher education and scientific research.
The methodology of U.S. News ranking is primarily based on scientific research; giving the greatest weight to scientific research impact by 50%, followed by research reputation by 25%, then research productivity by 15%, and finally international horizons by 10%.
The importance of the role of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank in providing the enormous amount of scientific resources needed to Egyptian researchers, scientists and decision-makers, in order to promote scientific research in Egypt, and enable research institutions to become globally known, in addition to contributing to the elevation of universities, institutions and research centers internationally, through The effort made by the team of the Egyptian Universities Grading Committee to follow the different standards of this ranking, in line with Egypt’s vision for sustainable development 2030.
